M Devecka is an artist and writer from Baltimore. She works primarily with stained glass and acrylic paint, and enjoys mixing media and finding the right one to suit a particular project. Her work is both personal and reflective of engagement with broader social themes.
Her debut show, The Artist Is Not Ok, drew from sources including current events, books, and personal organizing experience to explore complicity, compassion, and what it means to stand for justice as an artist. She received her BA in 2026 from Hampshire College. Her projects include The Artist is Not Ok and Mending Mediopuntos: A Socio-historical and Practical Exploration of Cuban Stained Glass.
M Devecka began by looking for answers to social injustice, and found that being a good global citizen is an ongoing process involving dedication, curiosity, and reciprocal care. Her work is done through the lens of movements such as anticolonialism and reproductive justice, and seeks to draw connections between specific histories and the systems they take place within, in order to understand how the personal is the political and how the political is the ethical. She hopes her work can be a point of education and connection as she continues to grow both as an artist and as a human seeking a better collective future.
