Gnome home attempts to capture the cozy feeling of whimsical children’s book illustrations in a new medium. I was inspired by the books I loved as a child, and the books I encounter as an early childhood educator. Like those illustrations, stained glass can have an almost magical quality to it and numerous creative possibilities. I wanted to find a way to embed the glass into the canvas to create the effect of light coming through a real tiny window. By breaking the conventions of the medium, I unlocked a new way to create.
